Information we collect

The information we collect depends on how you interact with us. It may include:

  • Your name, address, email address, telephone number and other contact details.
  • Information you provide in website forms, quote requests, emails, calls or messages.
  • Quote, customer, job, inspection, electrical testing, certification, invoice, payment, warranty and complaint records.
  • Property or site details, access instructions and appointment information needed to arrange or complete work.
  • Photographs of work, where taken and where they relate to an identifiable person or property.
  • Supplier and business contact information.
  • For employees and applicants, recruitment and employment information, including health information.

How we use information

We use personal information for the following purposes:

  • To respond to enquiries, prepare quotes, arrange surveys, provide electrical work, inspections and certificates, and manage customer communications.
  • To take payment, keep business and accounting records, administer warranties, handle complaints and establish or defend legal claims.
  • To manage suppliers and business relationships.
  • To recruit and manage staff, administer employment and pay, and use relevant health information where needed for the safety of employees and clients when carrying out business activities.
  • To send marketing emails about our services where permitted by law. You can opt out at any time by using the unsubscribe link in a marketing email.

Our lawful bases

Data protection law requires us to have a lawful basis for using personal information. Depending on the purpose, we rely on:

  • Contract, or taking steps at your request before entering a contract, when responding to quote requests and providing services.
  • Legal obligation when keeping records or meeting legal and regulatory duties.
  • Legitimate interests when running and protecting our business, managing service relationships, handling queries and improving our services, where those interests are not overridden by your rights.
  • Consent where we ask for it and rely on it, including where required for particular marketing or website tracking. You can withdraw consent at any time.
  • For staff and job applicants, we use information as needed to take steps before or perform an employment contract, meet legal obligations, and pursue our legitimate interests in managing the business and keeping people safe. The basis depends on the purpose.

Staff health information

We collect and use relevant health information about staff and job applicants when needed to assess and manage risks to the safety of our staff and clients in connection with our work. We limit the information we collect and who can access it to what is necessary.

Health information is special category data. We process it only where a lawful basis and an additional condition for special-category information apply. We keep staff health information for the length of their service with the company. At the end of service, we review it and securely delete or anonymise it when no longer needed, unless a legal obligation requires us to retain it for longer. We keep applicant health information only for as long as needed for recruitment and related legal requirements.

Where information comes from

We usually collect information directly from you. We may also receive your details through Checkatrade when you contact us or request a quote through that service. Checkatrade is the only trade website we currently use.

Who we share information with

We use and share information only for business purposes. We share it with staff, contractors and service providers who need it to carry out work for us or support the business. We do not share it for unrelated purposes.

We may also share information with regulators, public authorities or other parties where the law requires or permits us to do so, or where sharing is necessary to establish or defend a legal claim.

CCTV installations

We install CCTV systems for customers and may access footage while installing a system. We do not store customers’ CCTV footage.

Website information and cookies

Our website contact form asks for your name, email address and telephone number, and lets you provide details of your enquiry.

Our website does not currently use analytics or cookies. We will update this notice if that changes.

Transfers outside the UK

Our website contact form is powered by EmailJS. EmailJS states that its service servers are located in the United States and that personal information processed through its service may be transferred there. EmailJS says that it uses transfer safeguards for people in the UK, including Standard Contractual Clauses or the UK International Data Transfer Agreement (IDTA). You can read the latest details in the EmailJS privacy policy.

How long we keep information

We keep personal information only for as long as it is needed for the business purpose for which it was collected. We decide how long to keep it by considering whether an enquiry or job is ongoing, whether records are needed to administer work and payments, meet legal or accounting duties, honour warranties, resolve complaints, or establish or defend legal claims. We review the information and securely delete or anonymise it when it is no longer needed.

Where the law requires us to keep a particular record for a set period, we retain it for that period.

Your data protection rights

Depending on the circumstances and the lawful basis we rely on, you may have the right to request access to your personal information, ask us to correct or erase it, restrict or object to how we use it, or request a copy in a portable format. Some rights are subject to conditions and exceptions.

You have the right to object to processing based on legitimate interests and to direct marketing. If we rely on consent, you can withdraw it at any time. Contact us using the details above to exercise a right or ask a question.

You can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) at https://ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint/. We would welcome the chance to address your concern first.
